Best Honeymoon Destinations Around the World

Whether you dream of an overwater bungalow above a turquoise lagoon or a more adventurous escape, these honeymoon destinations are pure magic.

If there’s ever a trip that deserves to be unforgettable, it’s your honeymoon.

A dream honeymoon is your chance to slow down, celebrate your newlywed status, and soak up some real quality time together in one of the world’s most beautiful destinations.

And while I’ve only taken one honeymoon, it was a pretty epic one.

When my husband, Dave, and I got married, we took a three-month round-the-world honeymoon extravaganza (because of course we did, RTW trips are kind of my thing!).

Note: This post may contain affiliate links. If you choose to book through these links, I receive a small commission, which I will undoubtedly blow on more flights (it’s a vicious cycle).  All of this internet voodoo takes place at no additional cost to you.

Along the way, we checked off several of the most popular honeymoon destinations on this list—from white-sand beaches in the South Pacific to romantic villages along the Amalfi Coast and sunset views over the Aegean Sea.

Though all the romantic destinations on this list were not part of our honeymoon itinerary, we have visited each and every one over the years.

And I can personally vouch for the fact that any one of them would make the perfect destination for a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon. So if you’re currently planning a wedding and struggling to decide on the best honeymoon destination for you, I can help!

Whether you’re dreaming of a luxury honeymoon resort with private pools and private villas, a quiet escape to a tropical island, or an adventure-filled getaway packed with activities, you’ll find your perfect match right here.

My list highlights some of the top honeymoon destinations and romantic places around the world.

Places with turquoise waters, panoramic views, incredible food, and just the right amount of magic to make your first trip as a married couple truly unforgettable.

So grab your passport and let’s find the perfect place to celebrate your new married life! 💕

1. Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Westin Bora Bora Resort French Polynesia
Westin Bora Bora Resort, French Polynesia

Bora Bora is a dream honeymoon destination straight out of central casting. It’s the top luxury honeymoon destination in the South Pacific, and it truly does live up to the hype.

This tiny French Polynesian island is famous for its unreal turquoise waters, lush emerald peaks, and those iconic overwater bungalows perched above vibrant coral reefs.

It’s the kind of place where you spend your days snorkeling with tropical fish, paddleboarding across a sparkling lagoon, and unwinding in your own private plunge pool with views of Mount Otemanu.

With white-sand beaches, world-class luxury resorts, and endless opportunities for uninterrupted quality time together, Bora Bora is the perfect destination for romance.

The only downside? All that remote beauty comes with a hefty price tag. Expect to pay at least $1500 per night to check “stayed in an overwater bungalow” off your Travel Bucket List.

Must Do Experience: Book a private sunset cruise around the lagoon with a champagne toast and appetizers.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: It’s hard to go wrong with any of the resorts in Bora Bora, but my three favorites are The Westin Bora Bora Resort & Spa, the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, and the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort (with butler service and some of the largest suites in Bora Bora).

Best Months to Visit: May to October is the dry season (which also makes it the high season). During these months you’ll enjoy sunny days and calm lagoon conditions but you’ll also find peak rates at resorts.

2. Amalfi Coast, Italy

Amalfi Coast Italy on a Budget
Positano, Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most romantic honeymoon destinations in Europe.

This stretch of coastline along the Mediterranean is known for its old-world charm, winding coastal roads, and postcard-perfect views at every turn.

With dramatic cliffs, pastel villages, and that unmistakable Italian magic, it’s one of the world’s most beautiful destinations.

Spend your days exploring colorful towns like Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, sipping limoncello with panoramic views, and taking romantic strolls along the sea.

In the evenings, linger over long dinners of fresh pasta and seafood at candlelit terraces overlooking the water. For a classic European honeymoon, it’s hard to top Italy’s gorgeous Amalfi Coast.

Must Do Experience: Take a private boat cruise along the coast, stopping to swim in hidden coves before toasting with prosecco as the sun dips behind the cliffs. My husband and I did this a few years ago when we visited Positano for our anniversary. It was a splurge, but it’s one of our favorite memories.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: Le Sirenuse in Positano for iconic luxury with incredible views or the Belmond Hotel Caruso in Ravello. Set in a former palace, it has one of the most beautiful infinity pools in Italy.

Best Months to Visit: May to June and September to October for warm weather with fewer crowds. Avoid July and August unless you want to share your honeymoon with hundreds of tour groups.

3. Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia Pitons
Saint Lucia Pitons

There’s a good reason St. Lucia is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean. With its dramatic Piton mountains, lush rainforests, and warm Caribbean waters, this island feels equal parts adventurous and indulgent.

You can hike to waterfalls in the morning, go snorkeling or scuba diving in the afternoon, and then unwind with sunset cocktails by your private pool overlooking the sea.

Many of the island’s luxury resorts are designed just for couples, with open-air suites, private plunge pools, and jaw-dropping views of the Pitons. Some even offer all-inclusive packages perfect for honeymooners who want to pay once and not worry about the daily budget.

With its blend of natural beauty, 5-star resorts, and that signature Caribbean romance, St. Lucia is the ideal tropical honeymoon destination if you’re planning a winter wedding.

Must Do Experience: It might be hard to tear yourself away from St Lucia’s incredible luxury resorts, but book a private, customizable island tour to get out and see the best of island.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: Jade Mountain Resort for iconic open-air suites with private infinity pools facing the Pitons. Or the stunning Ladera Resort, the only resort located on the volcanic ridge between the two Pitons of Saint Lucia.

Best Months to Visit: December to April for warm, sunny weather and lower humidity. Just to be safe, I would avoid the hurricane season months of June to November.

4. The Maldives

W Maldives Resort & Spa Maldives
W Maldives Resort & Spa Maldives

The Maldivian Archipelago of 26 atolls stretches over 500 miles from North to South and forms a natural barrier across the Indian Ocean.

The entire country consists of hundreds of tiny, idyllic islands scattered across an expanse of brilliant blue ocean.

With impossibly clear turquoise waters, powdery white sand beaches, and ultra-exclusive private island resorts, the Maldives are a luxury honeymoon paradise.

Like Bora Bora, you can wake up in an overwater bungalow and step straight into the lagoon for a morning swim. Spend your days snorkeling vibrant coral reefs, spotting sea turtles, and unwinding with spa treatments over the water.

Evenings are all about candlelit private dinners on the beach and stargazing from the deck of your bungalow.

Must Do Experience: Be sure to book a resort that requires a sea plane flight to get there (some resorts are also accessible by boat). A sea plane flight over the atolls of the Maldives still ranks as one of my all-time favorite travel experiences.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: I love the dreamy W Maldives Resort & Spa for gorgeous overwater bungalows and top-notch service. Or the Four Seasons Hotel Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, a stunning luxury resort known for its spa and turtle rehabilitation projects at the Marine Discovery Center.

Best Months to Visit: Dry season in the Maldives is January to April. During these months you’ll enjoy the most sunshine and the best visibility for snorkeling and diving.

5. Maui, Hawaii

Grand Wailea Resort Maui Hawaii
Grand Wailea Resort, Maui

Hawaii is the most popular honeymoon destination in the US and the island of Maui is the top choice for most honeymooners.

With the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and incredible scenery, Maui is known for golden beaches, lush rainforests, and epic sunrises from the top of Haleakalā.

You can spend one day driving the Road to Hāna past waterfalls and bamboo forests, and the next lounging at a 5-star resort in Wailea. From oceanfront spa treatments to sunset dinners, Maui is ideal for couples who want a mix of romance and adventure.

Must Do Experience: If you’re not up for driving the twists and turns of Maui’s Road to Hāna yourself, this VIP Private Tour of the Road to Hana is a terrific way to see the best sights with a local guide.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: Wailea is my pick for honeymooners since Ka’anapali is the more family-friendly side of the island. Choose the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea for oceanfront luxury suites and incredible restaurants. Or Hotel Wailea, a boutique adults-only hideaway with panoramic views.

Best Months to Visit: I live in Hawaii and I can vouch for the fact that Maui is a terrific year-round beach destination. Sure, you might get a few more rainy days in the winter months, but January and February are also peak whale season. And there’s no better place in the world for whale watching.

6. Krabi, Thailand

Hong Island Krabi Thailand
Hong Island – Krabi, Thailand

When it comes to affordable honeymoon destinations, Krabi is my #1 pick.

While nearby Phuket is a more popular Southeast Asia honeymoon destination, I love the relaxed vibe and quiet resorts of Krabi. It’s also the ideal home base for exploring more of Thailand’s stunning islands with easy day trips.

Krabi is known for dramatic limestone cliffs, emerald jungles, and warm Andaman Sea waters. It’s a great option for couples who want that postcard-perfect tropical vibe—think white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and colorful longtail boats bobbing in the bay.

Spend your days island hopping to the Phi Phi Islands, kayaking through hidden lagoons, and snorkeling over vibrant reefs. Then you retreat to your private villa for sunset views and a peaceful evening together.

With its mix of adventure, beauty, and affordability, Krabi is the perfect place for a tropical romantic honeymoon without the Maldives price tag.

Must Do Experience: Take a Private Tour to Hong Islands & 4 Islands with Sunset & Night Snorkel.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: Rayavadee Krabi (set among limestone cliffs with lush jungle surroundings) and Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve for ultra-luxury villas with private pools and incredible sea views.

Best Months to Visit: November to March is the dry season and known for lots of sunshine. I don’t recommend visiting in the rainy/monsoon season of June to October. I once visited in July and had 5 straight days of rain.

7. Whitsundays, Australia

Whitehaven Beach Whitsundays Australia
Whitehaven Beach, Australia

Set in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsundays are one of Australia’s most spectacular honeymoon destinations.

This collection of 74 tropical islands is known for its dazzling white sand beaches, swirling silica sands, and luminous turquoise waters that look almost unreal from above.

The main draw here is the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsundays are the perfect home base to explore the world’s most spectacular reef.

You can spend your days sailing between islands, snorkeling vibrant coral reefs, and lounging on Whitehaven Beach—often ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world.

For a truly romantic experience, take a scenic flight over the iconic Heart Reef.

Heart Reef Great Barrier Reef Whitsundays Australia
Heart Reef – Great Barrier Reef, Australia

With its mix of natural beauty, private island resorts, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, the Whitsundays are the perfect destination for couples dreaming of an Australian honeymoon.

Must Do Experience: Take a scenic flight over Heart Reef and Whitehaven Beach for one of the most iconic aerial views in Australia.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: qualia on Hamilton Island for ultra-private pavilions with plunge pools and ocean views, or the InterContinental Hayman Island Resort for a classic luxury resort with elegant suites and beachfront villas.

Best Months to Visit: The dry season is May to October when you’ll have the best chance of sunny days, lower humidity, and ideal conditions for sailing, snorkeling, and scenic flights.

8. Santorini, Greece

Santorini Greece Sunset
Santorini Greece Sunset

Greece’s most famous island is also its most popular honeymoon destination.

Known for dramatic caldera views, iconic blue-domed churches, and spectacular sunsets, this stunning Greek island blends old-world charm with boutique luxury and some of the most unique honeymoon hotels in Europe.

Santorini’s unique cave-style hotels were built for romance. Cascading down the cliffside, many suites feature private plunge pools or hot tubs with panoramic views over the caldera. As the sun sets, couples gather in Oia for one of the most romantic views in the world.

With its romantic setting, stylish boutique hotels, and unforgettable volcanic scenery, Santorini is an incredible destination for a Greek Islands honeymoon.

Must Do Experience: Skip the Oia sunset crowds and book a sunset catamaran cruise around the caldera with swimming stops and a Greek dinner onboard.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: Canaves Oia Suites for luxury cave-style unique suites with plunge pools and caldera views, or La Perla Villas and Suites for adults-only luxury and private hot tubs overlooking the sea.

Best Months to Visit: Like most of the Greek Islands, Santorini is a seasonal destination. Most hotels open for the season by April and close in October or November. My favorite months to visit are May, June, and September. Try to avoid the busiest months of July and August.

9. Aitutaki, Cook Islands

Aitutaki Cook Islands South Pacific
Aitutaki, Cook Islands

You’ve probably never heard of Aitutaki, but I still consider this tiny atoll in the Cook Islands one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever laid eyes on.

This remote island in the South Pacific is home to one of the most spectacular lagoons in the world, with impossibly clear turquoise waters, tiny sand islets, and soft white sand beaches that feel completely untouched.

If you truly want to get away from it all for your honeymoon, head to this dreamy South Pacific paradise.

Spend your days cruising the lagoon by boat, snorkeling vibrant coral reefs, and picnicking on secluded motus that feel like your own private island. Evenings are all about quiet sunsets, simple beachside dinners, and long stretches of uninterrupted quality time together.

If you want Bora Bora beauty without the Bora Bora glam (and prices), this is the place for you.

Must Do Experience: Take a full-day lagoon cruise to One Foot Island with snorkeling stops, a beach picnic, and a chance to get your passport stamped with a cute footprint stamp at the tiny island post office.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: The Pacific Resort Aitutaki for boutique beachfront bungalows and villas set on a private stretch of lagoon, or the Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort for the only overwater bungalows in the Cook Islands, set on a secluded private island. Both resorts are adults-only.

Best Months to Visit: April to November is the dry season with more sunny days and calmer lagoon conditions.

10. Bali, Indonesia

Rice Terraces Ubud Bali Indonesia
Rice Terraces of Ubud, Bali

Bali is one of the best honeymoon destinations in Southeast Asia thanks to its mix of natural beauty, rich culture, and incredible value. From lush rice terraces and jungle waterfalls to dramatic cliffs and surf beaches, Indonesia’s most famous island offers a little bit of everything.

Split your time between Ubud’s serene jungle retreats and Bali’s beach towns. Bali is known for luxurious spa treatments, temple visits, and sunset dinners with ocean views.

Many of the island’s boutique stays and luxury resorts feature private villas with your own private pool at a fraction of the cost you’d pay elsewhere.

Pro Tip: If Bali’s popularity is too much for you, consider staying on the quiet nearby island of Nusa Lembongan instead.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan for a jaw-dropping jungle setting with river views and a world-class spa. Or The Edge Bali for cliffside villas with private pools and dramatic ocean views.

Best Months to Visit: During the dry season from April to October.

11. Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town South Africa
Victoria & Alfred Waterfront – Cape Town, South Africa

Looking for a little adventure on your honeymoon? Cape Town is one of the most exciting honeymoon destinations for couples who want a mix of romance, adventure, and culture.

Set between the mountains and the sea, this vibrant city is anchored by the aptly-named Table Mountain.

On a Cape Town honeymoon you can ride the cable car to the top of Table Mountain for sweeping panoramic views at sunset, relax on the beaches of Camps Bay, or take a day trip to the Cape Winelands for tastings at world-class vineyards like Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.

Add in the city’s rich history like the townships and Robben island, an incredible food scene, and stylish boutique hotels, and you’ve got a honeymoon that’s anything but boring.

Must Do Experience: Take a day trip to the Cape of Good Hope and see the penguins of Boulders Beach, one of the best beaches in the world.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: One&Only Cape Town, a sleek luxury hotel at the V&A Waterfront with Table Mountain views, or Ellerman House, an exclusive boutique hotel with oceanfront suites and a renowned art collection.

Best Months to Visit: November to March is summer in South Africa and ideal for warm, sunny weather and great beach conditions.

12. Aruba

Flamingo Beach Aruba Caribbean
Flamingo Beach, Aruba

Aruba is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean thanks to its consistently sunny weather, powdery white-sand beaches, and crystal-clear Caribbean waters.

Located conveniently outside the hurricane belt, it’s a great option for couples dreaming of a Caribbean honeymoon in the summer months.

The perfect Aruba day is spent lounging on Eagle Beach under a divi-divi tree, snorkeling over colorful reefs with sea turtles, and sipping cocktails at a swim-up bar.

Evenings are made for beachfront dinners, sunset walks, and easygoing island vibes.

With its reliable weather, wide range of inclusive resorts and luxury resorts, and fun mix of relaxation and water sports, Aruba is the perfect destination for a laid-back, sun-soaked romantic honeymoon.

Must Do Experience: A full-day UTV tour to discover some of the island’s best secret beaches and cave pools is a must.

13. Patagonia, Chile

Patagonia Chile explora Salto Chico Torres del Paine
Explora Patagonia, Torres del Paine – Patagonia Chile

For active couples who love hiking and stunning landscapes, Patagonia is a dream honeymoon destination.

Set at the southern tip of South America, this remote region of Chile is packed with natural wonders—from jagged peaks and shimmering lakes to massive glaciers and endless open skies.

Honeymoon days are spent hiking through Torres del Paine National Park, kayaking past icebergs, and even going horseback riding across sweeping valleys with dramatic mountain views.

After a day of exploring, you’ll return to a cozy lodge with floor-to-ceiling windows and some of the most incredible panoramic views you’ll ever see.

With its rugged beauty, peaceful isolation, and sense of shared adventure, Patagonia is the perfect place for couples looking for a once-in-a-lifetime, off-the-beaten-path romantic honeymoon.

Must Do Experience: Hike the iconic trails in Torres del Paine National Park or take a boat excursion to Grey Glacier for close-up views of towering icebergs.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: The incredible Explora Patagonia is my #1 hotel pick here. This luxury, all-inclusive lodge inside Torres del Paine includes daily guided “explorations” like horseback riding, picnics, and hikes. Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa is another option, a stunning design-forward lodge with panoramic views and spa treatments.

Best Months to Visit: November to March for Patagonia’s austral summer with longer daylight hours and the warmest weather for hiking.

14. The Seychelles

The Seychelles Islands
North Point Beach, Seychelles

Scattered across the Indian Ocean off the coast of East Africa, the Seychelles launched to fame as a honeymoon destination when Prince William and Kate honeymooned on the exclusive North Island.

Think massive granite boulders rising from powder-soft sand, shallow turquoise water, and beaches that look like they were styled by a professional photo crew.

Anse Source d’Argent alone could carry the island’s reputation, but the beauty here goes far beyond a single beach.

The Seychelles strike that rare balance of wild landscapes and 5-star luxury. That’s why they’re ideal for a romantic honeymoon whether you want to hibernate at a luxury resort or get out and explore the islands.

Must Do Experience: Take a boat trip to Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue for one of the most photographed beaches in the world.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: As you’d expect with a honeymoon spot favored by royals, there are plenty of luxury resorts in the Seychelles and they don’t come cheap. The Four Seasons Resort Seychelles and the Château de feuilles & SPA on Praslin island are hotels you’ll never forget.

Best Months to Visit: April to May and October to November for calm seas, warm weather, and great conditions for snorkeling and island hopping.

15. Mamanuca Islands, Fiji

Sheraton Tokoriki Fiji Honeymoon Villa South Pacific
Our honeymoon villa at the Sheraton Tokoriki Fiji

Fiji has two main island groups, the Yasawa Islands and the Mamanuca Islands. Both island groups are beautiful and made up of palm-fringed islands with brilliant turquoise waters and world-class resorts.

But for honeymooners, I’d give the Mamanucas the edge for romance. Just a short boat or seaplane ride from Nadi, this island chain feels blissfully remote, yet still easy to reach.

Sunny days are spent snorkeling vibrant coral reefs, paddleboarding across calm lagoons, and unwinding in a beachfront bure or villa with your own private pool. Evenings are made for sunset cocktails, traditional Fijian dinners, and quiet walks along soft white sand beaches.

Fiji was one of my favorite stops on our Round the World Honeymoon.

We stayed at the Sheraton Resort & Spa Tokoriki Island and loved our beachfront villa with a private plunge pool. But while this resort is beautiful, there were a few more kids around than I expected.

For a more romantic option, try one of the two adults-only resorts listed below.

But whichever resort you choose, there are two ways to get there – boat or helicopter. Trust me on this, do the helicopter! It wasn’t that expensive, the schedule was way more convenient, and it was one of our favorite honeymoon memories.

Sheraton Tokoriki Fiji Honeymoon Villa Helicopter Arrival South Pacific
On the helicopter headed to Tokoriki Island

Must Do Experience: Take an island-hopping day trip to Monuriki Island, made famous by the film Cast Away starring Tom Hanks.

Dreamy Honeymoon Hotels: The Barefoot Kuata Island Resort for beachfront bures with luxe open-air bathrooms. Or the Tokoriki Island Resort, a romantic, adults-only hideaway with beachfront villas and private plunge pools (it’s the only other resort located on the same island as the Sheraton).

Best Months to Visit: May to October is the dry season. During these months you’ll enjoy more sunny days, lower humidity, and ideal conditions for beach time and snorkeling.
