As my longtime readers may know, Thailand is the only country I have visited on all 7 Round the World trips. Last year, it was the beautiful island of Koh Samui. On other trips I’ve visited Chiang Mai, Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Khao Lak, Krabi and Phang Nga. Today, plans are in full swing for Round the World #8 but I’m stuggling with a new Thai beachy destination and looking for ideas. Without a doubt I’ll be making a stop in Bangkok to visit the shiny new W Bangkok hotel (opening in December)…but where to after that? Maybe Koh Lipe or Koh Lanta? I’m open to suggestions fellow globetrotters, so if you’ve got a favorite beach in Thailand, please share!

I'm Jenny McIver, career girl, globetrotter. On New Year's Day, 2005, a newspaper article about a man who took a trip around the world sparked a wanderlust in me that has yet to abate. I spent the following year planning my own trip-of-a-lifetime and have since made it into an annual, month-long adventure visiting and writing about more than 130 countries on all 7 continents along the way - all while maintaining a full-time career. Today, my goal is to be that spark of inspiration for others by proving that you can fulfill your wildest travel dreams without quitting your day job.
Hi Jenny. this is probably too late to be useful, but did you go to the Perhentian Islands yet? They’re my favorite islands. Not Thailand but right by the Thai border on the east coast of Malaysia.
Or Lipe would be a good choice if the season you’re going is better for that side.
No, I haven’t been to either. I’ll be back in Thailand in February so I’m still looking at island options. I’ve looked at Lipe (which looks beautiful) but I haven’t even heard of the Perhentian Islands. I’ll check them out, thanks for the suggestion!
