Photo of the Day – Guam
When the clock strikes midnight this New Year’s Eve in Guam, fireworks will light up the night sky over Tumon Bay…while the rest of the U.S. will just be starting its day. As the first U.S. territory to greet each new day, Guam is 15 hours ahead of New York time and will therefore be the first spot in the U.S. (by far!) to welcome 2012. Located 900 miles north of the equator, Guam is the largest island in Micronesia. New Year’s Eve festivities revolve around the tourist center of Tumon as locals and visitors alike head toward the beachfront resorts to view the fireworks and dance the night away.
