Photo of the Day – Boxing Day

While those of us in the U.S. are still basking in the glow of a great Christmas Day yesterday, some around the world are continuing the celebration by observing Boxing Day today. While the holiday’s exact origin is obscure, the tradition of Boxing Day is believed to have come from a custom where wealthy people and homeowners in the United Kingdom gave boxed gifts to service people on the day after Christmas. Today, Boxing Day is better known as a public and bank holiday observed in Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and other commonwealth nations. In Ireland, it’s known as St. Stephen’s Day and in South Africa as the Day of Goodwill. So happy Boxing Day to all of you celebrating today!
