Photo of the Day – Bay of Kotor, Montenegro
Though it’s often called Europe’s southernmost fjord, the Bay of Kotor is actually a submerged river canyon. Comprised of four smaller gulfs, the Bay has been inhabited since antiquity and is Montenegro’s most important tourist attraction. Along its banks sit a number of colorfully charming towns including Budva, Herceg Novi, Perast and Kotor. The religious heritage of the area is on display with countless Orthodox and Catholic churches and monasteries including the tiny Benedictine monastery sitting atop its own island off the coast of Perast. If you’re visiting nearby Dubrovnik, don’t miss an opportunity to venture south into Montenegro for one of Europe’s most scenic drives.
