Known simply as Aix, this small and beautifully ornate town known for its fountains and artistic heritage is the heart of Provence. The birthplace of Cézanne; his art captures the essence of the region, the town and its people. Fountains are abundant throughout tiny Aix including the largest and most famous on the Cours Mirabeau. It’s one of France’s wealthiest cities and you’re likely to find residents living a relaxed life of leisure. From shopping the morning markets to strolling the tree-lined avenues; or sipping a bottle of Kronenbourg 1664 beer at the beloved outdoor cafe Les Deux Garçons, the locals have mastered the art of joie de vivre.
