Planes come in for a landing just over Maho Beach, St. Maarten
It’s not just another day at the beach at St. Maarten’s Maho Beach. With the island’s airport runway located just across the street, beachgoers are treated to an aeronautical show every few minutes as aircraft small and large make their final approach. It’s the only place in the world to get this close to landing aircraft and the beach draws aircraft enthusiasts and tourists alike daily. Nearby Sunset Beach Bar & Grill not only displays the airline timetables, they also have a speaker on the deck that broadcasts radio transmissions between the pilot and the control tower. From the hum of a turbo-prop to the roar of a 747 jumbo, it’s a beachfront experience that’s one of a kind.
