Photo of the Day – Transylvania, Romania
Encircled by central Romania’s Carpathian Mountains, the historical region of Transylvania is rich in both myth and medieval sites. More than 100 castles and fortresses and countless small villages make up one of Europe’s most beautiful natural regions. Of several castles linked to the Dracula legend, Transylvania’s Bran Castle is most commonly believed to be the inspiration for the home of the titular character in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The castle is now a museum open to tourists and entire village of Bran is positively oozing with Dracula kitsch. A visit to the castle is a must while exploring the hills of Transylvania.
