Extending for almost 700 miles through Western Europe and the Balkans, the Alps are one of the world’s great mountain ranges. While the summer months lure hikers, paragliders and marathoners, the start of the winter ski season serves up glacier skiing, snowboarding and some of the best off-piste in the world. Throw in a cozy chalet and the energetic nightlife scene and it’s easy to see why Chamonix is the most popular destination for ski holidays in France.
