Photo of the Day – The French Alps
Extending for almost 700 miles through Western Europe and the Balkans, the Alps are one of the world’s great mountain ranges. The French Alps are especially renowned for magnificent skiing and stunning scenery. Nestled at the base of the Alps’ highest peak, Mont Blanc, is the picturesque Alpine resort town of Chamonix – host to the very first Winter Olympics in 1924 and ground zero for adventure sport enthusiasts. While the summer months lure hikers, paragliders and marathoners, the start of the winter ski season serves up glacier skiing, snowboarding and some of the best off-piste in the world. Throw in a cozy chalet and the energetic nightlife scene and it’s easy to see why Chamonix is the most popular destination for ski holidays in France.
