Seeing the World – One Month at a Time

Photo of the Day – Ljubljana, Slovenia

The view of Ljubljana from the Flower Bridge

With a population of just 300,000, Slovenia’s capital city may be one of Europe’s smallest, but it’s also one of the continent’s best kept secrets. The cobbled streets and colorful buildings of the Old Town are filled with artists, musicians, cafes and galleries calling to mind a charming, smaller version of Prague. Climb the towers of Ljubljana Castle to fully appreciate the beauty of this picturesque town from above. It’s an easily walkable city and a stroll along the Ljubljanica River crossing over the many distinct bridges is a perfect way to spend the day. The Triple Bridge marks the center of town while the Dragon Bridge pays homage to the city’s mascot. While in Ljubljana, don’t miss a trip out to the resort town of Lake Bled just a 45 minute drive away. The famous island floating in the middle of the lake seems plucked from a Grimms Fairy Tale.
