Seeing the World – One Month at a Time

Photo of the Day – Bratislava, Slovakia

The view of Bratislava Castle from the Danube

Part of Czechoslovakia until 1989, today Slovakia and the Czech Republic are two separate and independent nations.  Occupying an enviable position on the banks of Europe’s most beautiful river, Bratislava is Slovakia’s colorful medieval capital. Take a hydrofoil  along the Danube from nearby Budapest or Vienna and spend the day hiking up to Bratislava Castle and walking the narrow, winding streets of the Old Town.  Bratislava may not be Europe’s most glamorous city but it may just be its most relaxed and walkable.   On the streets of the Old Town you’ll find good music, traditional pubs, outdoor cafes and impressive architecture.  While few travelers make Bratislava their main destination in Europe, it’s absolutely worth a visit while in Budapest or Vienna.
