Best known as an Alpine ski mecca, the resort town of Chamonix transforms into an extreme sports playground in the summer.  From hiking famed Mont Blanc to canyoning and paragliding, it’s more a place for the fearless than the feeble.  Mountaineer Mark Twight once called it “the death-sport capital of the world.”  The #1 summer adventure sport is paragliding and a daily parade of rainbow-colored parachutes dance effortlessly over the peaks like colorful birds of prey.  While you must be certified to try it on your own, tandem flights are readily available to all for about 80 euro.
