Photo of the Day – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Rising more than 1,400 feet above Kuala Lumpur, the Petronas Twin Towers were the world’s tallest buildings from 1998 – 2004 when they were surpassed by Taipei 101. They are still officially the world’s tallest twin towers. Tower 1 is home to the offices of Malaysia’s national oil company while Tower 2 is occupied by dozens of other corporate offices. The complex (known as KLCC) also features a high-end shopping mall, a 2-story skybridge on the 41st and 42nd floors and is surrounded by a 17-acre park with jogging trails, wading pools and a children’s playground. The futuristic KLCC complex symbolizes Kuala Lumpur’s status as a modern city on the rise with a metropolitan population of more than 6 million. It is the cultural, financial and economic center of Malaysia and - for the traveler - it offers some of the world’s most affordable 5-star hotels, terrific shopping and an ever-increasing number of gastronomical delights.
