Seeing the World – One Month at a Time

Opening Ceremonies, 1996 Summer Olympics - Atlanta

Wherever I am in the world, when I tell people I’m from Atlanta, they think ”Olympics”.  As the site of the 1996 Summer Games, Atlanta played host to the world and put the southern U.S. state of Georgia on the global map.  I was proud to have the opportunity to play a small part in the hosting of the games as a volunteer for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.  The picture above was taken from my position in Olympic Stadium (now Turner Field and home to the Atlanta Braves) during the Opening Ceremonies.  In my current job with ESPN, I am lucky to say I have been present at many high-profile sporting events.  But I’m not sure anything else in the sporting world can quite match the global excitement of an Olympics Opening Ceremony.  No matter how many countries I travel to, that was a night in my home city that I will never forget.
