The most recognizable landmark in Cape Town, Table Mountain towers over the city offering spectacular panoramic views. It is often covered by a line of clouds known as the “tablecloth.” But on a clear day, there are two ways to the top: the aerial cable car (complete with rotating floor) or, for the more adventurous, a 3 hour strenuous hike up a challenging, rocky trail. I chose the hike and, though, at times along the way I questioned that decision – in the end it was the most rewarding path to the top. When you spend hours hiking to enjoy a perfect (and my first) African sunset, it is all that much more rewarding.

I'm Jenny McIver, career girl, globetrotter. On New Year's Day, 2005, a newspaper article about a man who took a trip around the world sparked a wanderlust in me that has yet to abate. I spent the following year planning my own trip-of-a-lifetime and have since made it into an annual, month-long adventure visiting and writing about more than 130 countries on all 7 continents along the way - all while maintaining a full-time career. Today, my goal is to be that spark of inspiration for others by proving that you can fulfill your wildest travel dreams without quitting your day job.
